You've likely seen some real bad tattoos before and wondered what went wrong. Many of these tattoos were well intentioned, but poorly executed and ignoring the long term consequences. Here's how to avoid disastrous tattoo choices and avoid bad tattoos. These are the most common mistakes people make when getting tattoos which lead to horrible and regrettable results.
1. Avoid India ink and cheap tattooing methods.
I met a guy once with knuckle tat's and various designs on his arm. All were done by his buddy with India ink and he boasted how the tattoos were essentially "free". Now days hardly any of those tats are recognizable and look more like a bad skin condition, rather than an actual tattoo. This is the result of cheap tattooing and bad tattoo materials.
2. Avoid Trendy Designs.
There are a whole lot of guys out there with the classic barb wire or a chain link design wrapped around their bicep. While that was cool in the 90's, now days it's heavily mocked. Guys went from feeling like they are cool, to now being totally embarrassed about their tattoo. This is the results of following a trend. Avoid trendy tattoo designs.
3. Avoid Low Quality Tattoo Pictures.
There are a vast array of free tattoo galleries out there and nearly all of them have inferior, low quality pictures which may look okay on your computer screen but will transfer over to an actual tattoo very poorly. It's definitely worth joining a high quality tattoo gallery and avoiding bad choices in design quality.

Um... that girl with the anime eyes, I'm pretty sure that isn't a tattoo. Its makeup. :/
